
Why Lightroom's AI Denoise Triggers Instagram's 'AI Info' Label

If you're a photographer who uses Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop, you've likely encountered the frustrating experience of having a raw photo labeled as AI on social media. You didn't generate the photo; you only used Lightroom's AI Denoise feature to reduce noise in a low-light shot. Why does Instagram treat this the same as a generated image?
Adobe's Role: The Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI)
Adobe is a founding member of the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI) and the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA). These organizations aim to combat misinformation by attaching secure metadata to digital media, recording how it was created and edited.
While this is positive in theory, Adobe's implementation is aggressive. When you use tools powered by AI—such as AI Denoise, Generative Fill, Generative Expand, or Lens Blur—Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop automatically append a C2PA manifest and XMP metadata to your exported image. This metadata includes a machine-readable flag indicating that generative or AI tools were involved in the creation workflow.
How Social Media Platforms Read Adobe's Metadata
Meta (Instagram, Facebook), TikTok, and Pinterest have integrated scanners that check all uploaded images for these specific signatures. If their scanner finds a C2PA manifest indicating AI tools were used (specifically the digitalSourceType tag set to trainedAlgorithmicMedia), it automatically tags the post with the "AI Info" or "Made with AI" label.
Because these scanners are binary (either the tag is present, or it is not), they cannot evaluate the *extent* of the AI use. Your photo with 2% AI noise reduction gets the exact same label as a 100% AI-generated digital painting.
How to Clear the Lightroom AI Flag
To prevent this, you must clean the C2PA and XMP metadata from the JPEG or PNG file before uploading. You can do this easily with the AI Label Remover tool, which decodes the image's raw pixels and exports them to a new container without copying any of the tracking metadata.
